Congratulations Marco and Nicki with the world championship in WEC

final-TOTAL-Aston-Martin

We can proudly announce that the Danish Aston Martin racing drivers Nicki Thiim and Marco Sørensen have been crowned world champions after taking victory in the FIA World Endurance Championship´s season finale in Bahrain.

At the beginning of the season, Thiim made a big change in his racing career by joining a new team in Aston Martin Racing as well as working with new partners as Total and Dunlop. A decision, that we at Total are highly pleased and proud of.

Thiim announced, “The consistency throughout the season has been amazing, the car has been great and the improvements we’ve made with our partners throughout the year have been incredible. To be up there in our first year with two new partners in Dunlop and Total and to compete against some big teams with their two new cars is really something special. Right now, I’m very happy with what I and the team have achieved”.

We at Total would once again like to congratulate the whole team and we truly look forward to continue working together with the team.

LOEB FIRST WIN IN WORLD RX

sebastien-loeb

Sebastien Loeb has claimed his first ever rallycross victory at the wheel of a Peugeot 208 WRX Supercar after triumphing at this weekend’s Neste World RX of Latvia, round ten of the FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy. Loeb is the first driver ever to win events in three different FIA World Championships [World RX, WRC and WTCC].

Sweden’s Mattias Ekstrom finished runner-up in his Audi S1 EKS RX Quattro, while Timmy Hansen finished third to make it a double podium for Team Peugeot-Hansen. In the overall World RX driver standings, Ekstrom now leads the standings by 27 points with only two rounds remaining.

Loeb amassed a staggering 78 victories in his WRC career, but today was his first win in World RX and the Frenchman was visibly delighted. “This feels really, really great,” grinned Loeb. “I’m really happy for my team and especially for my chief mechanic [Martins] who is from Latvia. My goal at the start of this year was to win in RX and I always knew that would be a big challenge in my first year. For the last couple of events, however, I have felt like I was getting closer and today the hard work has paid off. Thank you to my team for helping to make this happen, they have done a really good job with the car. It’s always nice to come to an event with such a good atmosphere and where the people are pleased to see you – even the country’s President and Prime Minister were here this weekend so that is impressive. The track was very good also, and the tyres worked well in the conditions.”p>

TOTAL become exclusive fuel supplier of Moto2™ and Moto3™

Total-moto2-moto3

French oil company TOTAL will become the exclusive fuel supplier to the Moto2™ and Moto3™ classes in 2016.

Founded in 1924, Total has been involved in motorsport for several years working in various car racing world championships. Total is a global integrated energy producer and provider, a leading international oil and gas company with 100,000 employees. From 2016 onwards they will undertake the challenge of supplying fuel to both the Moto2™ and Moto3™ FIM World Championships. An important challenge for Total Additifs & Carburants Spéciaux as an SMB within a major multinational company, the Total Group. The Moto3™ World Championship runs single cylinder 250cc four-stroke engines whereas a 600cc inline four cylinder four-stroke powers Moto2™ machines.

Both classes have quite different technical regulations, but both are critical for rider development in the World Championship. The Moto3™ class provides young up and coming riders with an entry point onto the world stage and produce some of the most thrilling racing of each Grand Prix weekend.

In Moto2™ younger riders battle it out with veterans who have spent years racing at the top level, not only honing a rider’s abilities but also teaching them how to handle heavier bikes. High quality race fuel ensures that these riders are able to maximise their time on track and help guarantee their machine is issue free.

A unique competence center for the Total Group, Total Additifs & Carburants Spéciaux combines additive and special fuel formulation and production activities for such projections. Well-established in Givors in France, it employs more than 110 people. Racing fuels are one of the very special activities of Total Additifs & Carburants Spéciaux, which distributes them throughout the world under the ELF and TOTAL brands.

“Total is very happy to become the new exclusive fuel supplier for the 2016 Moto2 & Moto3 FIM World Championships. This new partnership with DORNA strongly confirms our growing involvement for highest technological performances for moto Racing, where Total Sponsoring & Motorsports Division and Total Additifs & Carburants Spéciaux are already playing actively in MotoGP for supporting Top Teams and providing the best products and technical support,” said Pierre-Gautier Caloni, Vice President of Total Sponsoring & Motorsport Division. Pau Serracanta, Managing Director, Commercial Area at Dorna, declared: “We are pleased to have Total come on board as the official fuel supplier to both the Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships. Ensuring that bikes run smoothly is important during the early stages of a rider’s career, allowing them to spend the maximum amount of time on track and therefore gather the most information they can. Total are committed to delivering a high standard of product, and with fuel playing such an integral role in motorcycle racing it was important to choose the right supplier. We look forward to seeing what advancements they make in the realm of fuel.”

Victory number five for the PEUGEOT 208 WRX

PEUGEOT 208 WRX

Faced with a fiercer level of opposition than ever before in Istanbul (Turkey), the PEUGEOT 208 WRX drivers needed to pull out all the stops in the semi-final and final of the 11th round of the 2015 FIA World Rallycross Championship – and thanks to Timmy Hansen’s victory and fifth place for team-mate Davy Jeanney, Team Peugeot Hansen has taken a step closer towards clinching the teams’ crown with two rounds remaining to run.

  PEUGEOT 208 WRX vs

The brace of PEUGEOT 208 WRX Supercars found themselves up against a stronger field than ever during the only Asian stop on the FIA World Rallycross Championship calendar. Timmy Hansen might have won the weekend’s opening heat race around a track that borrowed several corners from the former Formula 1 circuit, but the pressure applied by the Audis and Fords was relentless.

Notwithstanding this threat, Hansen succeeded in securing second place in the intermediate rankings, whilst despite enduring a more complicated time of things in the heats in the squad’s sister car, Davy Jeanney similarly qualified for the next stage.Following an action-packed second semi-final, the Team Peugeot Hansen duo once again both progressed on to the all-important final by claiming the top two positions – no mean achievement in light of the breathless nature of the fraught six-lap contest! In the final, Hansen maintained his momentum to lead from lights-to-flag, artfully fending off unrelenting pressure from Andreas Bakkerud – particularly over the last lap.

Jeanney complemented his team-mate’s triumph with fifth place to tally a strong haul of championship points, enabling Team Peugeot Hansen to extend its advantage at the top of the Teams’ standings to 79 points with two rounds remaining, in Italy in a fortnight’s time and Argentina at the end of November. With his third victory of the season, Timmy Hansen has further reduced the gap separating him from reigning world champion Petter Solberg in the drivers’ classification. The young Swede is now only 19 points in arrears. In the RX Lites Championship, Peugeot Red Bull Hansen Junior Team driver Kevin Hansen is still in charge, 11 points clear of his closest pursuer with only a single round left to run in Italy on October 16-17.

The PEUGEOT 2008 DKR16 just got bigger – and better!

total dakar - total racing

This latest evolution of the car, which is scheduled to make its competitive debut later in the year before heading to South America, is longer, wider, lower and more powerful than its predecessor: presenting a more aggressive stance, with a raft of improvements under the skin as well. The front and rear overhangs have been reduced, enhancing the car’s go-anywhere ability. This is vital when it comes to tackling the varied obstacles such as sand dunes, river beds, and huge rocks that characterise the Dakar, making it one of the last true sporting adventures left on earth.

The PEUGEOT 2008DKR16 also benefits from improved aerodynamics: the bonnet and roofmounted air-intake have been heavily revised, in order to provide more balanced downforce between front and rear. The new air scoop also ensures better airflow. Other evolutions lie under its carbon skin. The suspension has been redesigned to deal more effectively with the different and rough terrains. It also benefits from better weight distribution, as well as magnesium one-piece wheels for the first time, matched to lighter tyres from Michelin.

These replace the aluminium two-piece wheels from last year, with the combination resulting in a significant weight saving. The new car has been a continual work in progress, with development work starting as soon as the original car crossed the finish ramp in Buenos Aires just over seven months ago, at the conclusion of this year’s Dakar. Peugeot’s engineers went over their ‘Lion’ piece by piece, analysing what could be done better, with the help of its Dakar experts Stéphane Peterhansel (an 11-time winner), Carlos Sainz (a twotime world rally champion and also former Dakar winner) as well as Cyril Despres (a five-time Dakar winner on bikes). These improvements were gradually applied and assessed through a series of tests, culminating in a one-two finish for Peterhansel and Despres on the recent China Silk Road Rally using an interim-specification car. This was essentially the 2015 model, with a number of development parts for 2016 added. There are some surprises under the bonnet as well. Despite the air restrictor, the 3.0-litre V6 twin-turbo diesel engine now has more power. The driveability of the engine is increased too, which will be particularly useful during twisty stages.

Peugeot Sport Director Bruno Famin, overseeing the final test in Morocco to sign off the latest incarnation of Peugeot’s Dakar challenger, commented: “There isn’t one big change that we have made on our car: instead it has been a series of small evolutions in different areas, which together we hope will amount to an overall improvement. The areas we have concentrated on include bodywork and aerodynamics – as a result of which the car looks slightly different compared to last year – as well as engine and suspension, which is all under the skin. The tests we have carried out up to now, as well as our one-two finish in China recently, indicate that we are heading in the right direction. You really cannot compare our state of preparation now to how it was for our first Dakar this time last year, when everything was new to us! Of course you can never say that you are completely ready for the Dakar either because you simply never know what it will throw at you, but certainly this time we are more ready.” Peterhansel and Sainz have driven the new car through the different phases of its development, and found it to be a useful step forward from its predecessor, providing greater driveability, power and traction. Peterhansel, who gave the PEUGEOT 2008 DKR its first-ever overall win, in China, said: “You can really feel the difference now that the car is longer and wider, with a lower centre of gravity, because it’s a lot more stable so cornering speeds are faster. You can feel the difference in the engine as well: not only is it more powerful but also you can use all the power even at low revs. We’ve almost got a ‘problem’ now of how to manage all that power most effectively, but this is a very nice problem to have. We’re still not at the maximum of our capabilities, but testing has been very productive so far.” Sainz stayed behind to concentrate on development work rather than competing in China. As a result, he has accumulated plenty of experience of the brand new challenger. The Spaniard added: “It’s been good testing and the car has been running really well. The potential of the car is much, much bigger than it was at this time last year and reliability has been solid too. We’ve
changed quite a lot in the car in many key areas, so really we can call this one a completely new car compared to last year. I feel optimistic.”

Hansen Team on the top in Hell

Hansen-win

The stunning form the PEUGEOT 208 WRX has shown since the beginning of summer continued this weekend in Norway, home soil of the defending world champion Petter Solberg. Team Peugeot Hansen’s two drivers were unfazed by the venue’s fearsome name as they produced another dominating display from start to finish in Hell.

After failing to harvest the fruit of his speed in Sweden and Canada, Timmy Hansen succeeded in finishing at the top of the order at last. The Swede was delighted with the handling of his Peugeot 208 as he sailed through the qualifying races, despite rugged resistance from home star Petter Solberg. The #21 PEUGEOT 208 WRX driver’s reward was first place after the four heats.

Building on its recent victories in Germany and Canada, the Franco-Swedish squad went on to deliver the perfect team performance as Davy lined up on the front row for the first semi-final alongside Timmy. The pair came first and second and then repeated their exploit by securing the same positions in the final to claim the first ever one-two finish in WorldRX history.

“This win is hugely satisfying for me and the team which has tirelessly kept working to improve the car, race after race. We’ve been on top form for four rounds now and it’s such a joy to drive the PEUGEOT 208 WRX which has become really competitive. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel at Lohéac which is a track I adore; on Peugeot’s home turf as well! It will certainly be something to drive a French car there!”, Timmy Hansen, 208 WRX #21, winner.

Their achievement has taken Team Peugeot Hansen to the top of the Teams’ standings with a 29-point lead over Ford Olsberg OMSE. Meanwhile, Timmy Hansen has climbed to second in the Drivers’ classification, while Davy Jeanney is fourth.

23-june-2015-hansen

The two Peugeot 208 WRX cars did a great race and finished top three in the Germany FIA World Rallycross race in Estering this weekend. The French driver Davy Jeanney was absolutely dominating the fast track and won the fifth race for the season. His team-member Timmy Hansen was driving more less perfect and ended third behind the Norwegian Petter Solberg. But it was Davy Jeanney who was the big star in Germany. During the weekend he won three out of four qualification rounds, his semifinal and finally the final itself. “The 208 was perfectly balanced for the track and this win is fantastic. Also because this is my first win in five years and it feels great to take this win already during my first season with the team” said the winner.
